The class will cover the basics of setting up, adjusting, maintaining, and using some common handplanes. We'll get practice sharpening, adjusting all the features of a standard plane, cleaning and maintaining the plane, how to hold and use a smoother, jack, and jointer to level and smooth a board, how to judge grain direction and tearout, and how to use a shooting board. If time allows, we can look at some more specialized tools like a rabbet, router, spokeshave, etc.
Students can bring their own planes if they have them, but the instructor will bring a few of my own, as well as everything else we will need - sharpening stones, strops, honing guides, etc. lnstructor will provide wood for practice as well.
